The most important part of buying a digital camera is making sure that
the one you select meets all of your needs.

Digital Camera 101

Better digital cameras uses a chip called a "Charged Coupled Device"
(CCD) instead of film. Light enters the camera, through the open
shutter, and strikes the CCD where it is converted to digital data
before being stored in the camera's memory.

While that is the simple description, things can get pretty
complicated from there.

Megapixels & Resolution

Resolution is a measure of how many...pixels are used to make a digital
copy of an image. Pixels are tiny dots of light that make up a digital
image.

The quality of a digital camera's image is usually measured in
'Megapixels' where each megapixel represents one million pixels.

Here's how to determine how many megapixels you'll need depending upon
the type of photos you will be taking and what you intend to do with
them.

1 megapixel

Almost obsolete, you might still find these in cell phones, PDAs, and
desktop "web" cameras. They're OK if you only intend to email pictures
to other people and those people aren't going to be printing them.

1.1 to 2 megapixels

Only slightly better than the 1.0, this resolution is OK for an average
4x6 snapshot, but it isn't going to be a production quality image.

2.1 to 3 megapixels

This is the beginning of the decent camera range. You get very good 4x6
images and reasonably good 5x7 images. These cameras are low cost and
provide a good platform for beginners.

3.1 to 4 megapixels

You are qualified to say that you have a "pretty good" camera. You get
professional quality 4x6 images, real good 5x7 and 6x9 shots, and
somewhat decent, but not great 8x10 images.

4.1 to 5 megapixels and up

People will be saying "Hey, great pictures!". You can count on
professional images all the way up to 8x10's. Of course, as the
megapixel count goes up, so does the price.

If you are only going to be viewing your pictures online, such as
posting them at a photo site or using them on your web pages, keep your
money in your pocket and pick yourself up something in the 1.5 megapixel
range.

If you will be shooting pictures that will be printed at a print house,
such as for brochures, postcards, etc, then you will need at least a 5
megapixel camera if not higher. Of course, you'll also need to have a
fat wallet or a lot of open to buy on your credit card because, even
thought prices are steadily falling, these puppies aren't cheap!

Once you've solved the megapixel puzzle, the rest of a digital camera's
features, such as lens types, storage capacity and shutter speed are
pretty routine and easy to understand. You shouldn't have a problem
deciding on those features.

Video Selection #1 in Level Of Importance 1. HD TV (High Definition Television) are televisions that can process high definition signals thru the use of a separate set box. 8. AVR Receivers(see audio section)for TVs relate more to audio, but do play a role in the refresh rate of the screen, provide video input for games, other devices and synchronizes the sound to the picture. Other type receivers are satellite and HDTV. 9. DVD player/recorder/VCR play and or, record from DVD disks and can be separate components, or all in one unit called combo units. Some DVDs support Windows media such as CD/CD-RW for playing music and, or showing your stored pictures and music.

Sound Selection #2 In Level Of Importance. Audio is not that crucial to many as compared to the core of the home theater....which is the picture they see. TVs have speakers built in that will suffice for the better part of us, but add a few good speakers and you have quality sound. Your home theater room, or area plays a major part in how the sound is interpreted in relation to the acoustics of the room,size, furniture, walls, curtains, carpet etc that absorb the signal. As an example a long rectangle room with carpet will have better acoustics than a square room with hardwood floors. Really do not expect exact movie theater sound from your existing rooms because a theater is designed especially for this purpose, unless you plan to build a special room. Whatever you decide you will experience better sound with the right components. 1. AVR Receivers manage all aspects of your audio system and video and considered the brain that controls the video portion and transforms signals into sound. AVR Receivers are available in different watts with individual channels to manage and equalize speakers. 2. Speakers come in all sizes and shapes and are a good investment if you want the most out of sound . The quality of sound is determined by the watts of power they produce..ie a 100W will produce more sound quality than a 50W. The receiver is matched in wattage to correspond with the wattage of the speaker. Of all the audio components below, speakers are the most important of all so get the best you can.

3. Sub woofers increase the bass capabilities of your sound system. Not a necessity unless you like the sound of thundering explosions in an action movie. 4. Surround Sound will deliver a cinematic sound quality to your home theater, but is not an essential component.

Home Theater Mini System ("In A Box") With a mini system all you need is the TV and installation is much easier than using separate components which may require you hiring a professional. You can get a mini system with just about any feature you want to include DVD/DVR/VCR/AVR/CD, speakers, sub woofers, surround sound etc...The systems are much cheaper in cost than purchasing separate components and the drawbacks are you may be limited on what you can output if you want additional add-on such as video games,extra speakers etc. The mini home theater is basically to run the components provided in the kit and if you want to add on you may not be able to. Another drawback is you may be sacrificing superior video and sound quality for lower a price. Just like anything else there are good mini home theaters and better ones...So get the best if you go this route.

More expensive GPS auto navigation systems come with the ability to upload additional map systems so they can be used in different countries, and through the use of local radio services, provide comprehensive traffic information to the driver wherever in the world he is.

"Apple's", "Macs", "those other laptops" - whatever you call them Apple Macbook laptop's are among the most widely used laptops for web designers, developers, and those adventurous enough to use them. Those are do not use macs simply because their are unfamiliar with what they even are or their significance will learn a lot by reading this article.

Brief History of Macbooks:
The MacBook is a line of Macintosh notebook computers by Apple Inc. that replaced the iBook G4 series and the 12" PowerBook G4. The original MacBook was built around the Intel Core Duo chip and released on May 16, 2006 (Wikipedia).

You pay for what you get
In general, macbook's are often much more expensive than the average dell laptop for $600. The problem with this is people tend to 'cheap' out on laptops...and then pay for it in the end. How do they pay for it? Slow hardware, terrible design, and absolutely unreliable technical service. One thing that gives Apple owners the edge is, Macbooks are built to last you quite a number of years with top hardware installed, not too much preinstalled software, and catchy design. Other than their sleekness, Apple has designed a laptop that has basic little designs like a magnetic A/C adaptor end to go into the Macbook so if you accidentally trip over the powercord, your Macbook doesn't going flying across the floor.

Viruses
Ok, so you're running a fairly large company and don't have an IT guy to fix and repair your computer problems. When things go wrong like Trojan Horses attacking your computer or viruses sending our spam mail from your Yahoo account, you have no where to turn to. With macs, viruses on your computer that can invade and take over your computer typically are never a problem. If you were using a PC and do not know how to fix the problems it could be days until you could get a technical repair business out to help you. Time is money, you do not want to waste it on nonsense now do you?

Wait...nooo Microsoft Office !
Something that tends to scare off potential customers of buying mac computer's is they think they will loose Microsoft office. Think again. Microsoft Office, like many other typically Windows based products run on a mac and not only run, but run flawlessly.

Two or three hours at most, try four
That's right, a $1500 macbook has a battery life of over four hours on a single charge. This is one thing I enjoy more than anything else is being able to have my mac charged within an hour and then go and eat breakfast, then work, then eat lunch, then work, and still have enough battery to keep on going. My previous Toshiba laptop was lucky if it could make an hour and 30 mins.

While many people still do not believe that Macbooks are superior for many things other than web development, they are. The only thing you have to do is try them once and your hooked , or at least I was :) . I probably will never buy another PC. People still try to use the outdated excuse that mac's aren't compatible with software. For most things the typical person is doing a Macbook is easily suitable.

If you prefer to keep your photography easy then a point and shoot digital camera is for you. Now before you think you are going to be getting some substandard camera, let me reassure you that point and shoot cameras can take great quality photos. And, as the camera technology develops, point and shoot cameras are becoming of more interest to the experienced photographer as well. Of course, the advanced point and shoot cameras are juts a bit more expensive than your normal ones, which is why they are aimed at the serious hobby photographer. But, for your normal vacation photos a compact point and shoot digital camera is ideal. Following is a brief rundown of...what you can expect from a point and shoot digital camera.

One of the key factors to having a good digital camera is its shutter speed, and this is what people used to believe was the downside of a point and shoot as opposed to a SLR digital camera. But as technology has improved your standard compact camera has managed to decrease the delay of the shutter and you can now get higher quality photos. The one downside that still remains with point and shoot cameras is that when you zoom, you are not getting a lens zoom, but merely enhancing the digital image. What this means is that when you come to print the image, it can appear distorted. If this bothers you then you may have to look at using a SLR camera.

In the olden days of photography your image was on film. These days your image is on the memory card, and for that reason it is important that your memory card has enough storage for your needs, especially if you are going on vacation and will be unable to save your photos onto a PC. But, if most of your pictures are taken when you are in your home town you do not need to worry about the memory card too much as you can put them on your computer the same day that you take them. Admittedly when you first start to look into memory cards you may find it a little bit bewildering, but if you tell the person you are buying from how you intend to use the camera, they should be able to advise you on the right type of card to get. Finally, one of the last big advantages of this compared to normal photography is that if you make a mistake with the picture you are taking, you can retake the shot straight away without waiting for it to be developed and then seeing your mistake and not being able to do anything about it.

If you are new to the world of digital cameras then one of the words you are bound to have come across is megapixel. Basically for a normal point and shoot, to get good quality you want a camera with three mega pixels as a minimum. In fact though, when you go to buy your camera you will find that most point and shoots have at least 3 or 4 mega pixels anyway. Now it is possible to buy a point and shoot with a lot more mega pixels, however if your camera is just for family snaps and vacations, going after more mega pixels is not going to make that much difference, except to your wallet.
